In response to the Supreme Court of the United States issuing its ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities issued the following statement:
Today’s decision and announcement by the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade is welcomed and celebrated by all who defend the sanctity of life from the moment of conception until natural death. I want to express my profound gratitude to everyone in the Diocese of Corpus Christi who has prayed and worked to protect the life of every baby in the womb of its mother.
Candidates Carlos De La Rosa and Charles Andrew Silvas were ordained priests by Bishop Michael Mulvey at Corpus Christi Cathedral on June 18. During the Liturgy, Bishop Michael Mulvey laid his hands on their heads. He then took holy oil and anointed their hands – hands that would soon hold the Lord in the consecration.

Catholics gathered at Corpus Christi Cathedral on June 16 for the Feast of Corpus Christi. The event, also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, celebrates the real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
A reception honoring Father Michael Coronado was held on June 19, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi in the Msgr. Kasper Youth Center at Ss. Cyril & Methodius (SSCM) Catholic Church. Father Coronado was ordained for the Archdiocese of San Antonio, but his roots run deep at Ss. Cyril & Methodius. His parents Roy and Margaret Coronado are longtime parishioners at Ss. Cyril & Methodius.
The National Eucharistic Revival officially begins Corpus Christi Sunday, June 19, 2022. The National Eucharistic Revival is a three-year initiative sponsored by the Bishops of the United States intended to form, heal, convert, and unite the People of God through a renewed encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist – and then to send these “Eucharistic missionaries” out to a hurting and hungry world. The milestone event of the Revival will be a National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, IN, from July 17-21, 2024.
On June 24, the Catholic Church will celebrate World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests. Established by Saint John Paul II in 2002, this celebration occurs annually on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. On this day, the Church encourages priests to prayerfully reflect upon the gift of their vocation.
The excitement in the air was palatable as the many campers from Catholic Charities Ministry and Life Enrichment for Persons with Disabilities Department trickled in on the first day of the Fr. Walsh Summer Camp for persons with disabilities on June 8. Many campers haven’t gathered since the start of the pandemic in 2020. Campers were excited to have three days of faith-filled fun.
Salutatorian Ella T. Garcia graduated from Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School on May 26. Her spectacular middle school career started three years ago as a sixth grader, obtaining straight A’s while playing three sports. As a seventh grader, she continued her success as a student-athlete maintaining her “A” average while playing sports year-round. She was also selected to the National Junior Honor Society.

Jenny and Alyssa Ramos sort through The Ark storage facility by organizing donations of toys, diapers, cleaning supplies and many other items. The mother and daughter team are parishioners at Holy Family Parish in Corpus Christi and have been volunteering at The Ark, Assessment Center and Emergency Shelter for Youth since 2018.
Father Alfredo Villarreal celebrated the 8th Anniversary of his priestly ordination with his parish family at St. Martin of Tours in Kingsville on May 29. His actual anniversary was on May 31.
Bishop Michael Mulvey gave an invocation on the morning of June 8 at the Nueces County Commissioners Court unanimously passed a resolution naming June 16, 2022, the Feast of Corpus Christi. “It’s a great honor to receive the resolution,” he said.
The Diocese of Corpus Christi, Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi, and Mother Teresa Shelter are pleased to announce Dr. Michele Johnston as the new Executive Director of the two organizations. As Executive Director, Johnston will manage the day-to-day operations at Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi and Mother Teresa Shelter. She will work in concert with the Diocese of Corpus Christi and local leadership to elevate the care of the needy, homeless, and displaced in our community and the 12 counties of the Diocese.
