August 20, 2020 WASHINGTON–Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City in Kansas, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, thanked and praised the Trump Administration following the release of its second report showing successful implementation of an expanded Mexico City Policy aptly renamed, “Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance.” The report shows that the vast majority of foreign NGOs—1,285 out of 1,340—have complied with this policy with minimal disruption of health services and no reduction in funding.
Catholic Charities agencies distributed nearly $400 million in emergency COVID-19 assistance to people across the United States and the U.S. Territories during the past four months. Emergency help consists primarily of food, rental assistance, personal protective equipment, baby supplies, and emergency quarantine housing. Seminarians Carlos Tomas De La Rosa and Charles Andrew Silvas publicly declared their intentions to pursue Holy Orders and were officially accepted as candidates for ordination during the Rite of Admission to Candidacy for Holy Orders at a special Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Mulvey on Aug. 8.
