The Office of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Corpus Christi held quarterly meetings for youth ministers on Tuesday, June 28, at Holy Family in Taft and Wednesday, June 29, at the Chancery and at St. Elizabeth in Alice. Youth Ministry Director Jaime Reyna conducted the meeting, which saw some 25 youth ministers in attendance.
The St. Thomas More Youth group attended Steubenville South in Alexandria, Louisiana for the first time on June 24-26. On Wednesday, June 15, Father Sam Medley, SOLT was installed as director of Our Lady of Corpus Christi at a noon a Mass. Father Jerry Drolshagen, Regional Priest Servant for SOLT, was the main celebrant and homilist. Portions of the Mass, including the homily and Father Medley’s profession of faith, were available on a live feed and recorded through SOLT’s Facebook page where they are still available to view.
On Saturday, June 12, Our Lady of Corpus Christi said goodbye to Father Dan Estes, SOLT a spiritual mentor to many here in the south Texas area. Father Estes has been assigned to Queretaro, Mexico to serve in a mission there. A "despedida" BBQ was held to say goodbye to him. People from all around the Corpus Christi area came out to thank Father Estes and wish him well in his new assignment.
Allyson Sturgeon, a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Portland, just returned from a medical mission trip to Costa Rica that tended to more than 120 patients in the communities of Alajuela and San Jose. Responding to Sturgeon's appeal, the parish provided donations of hygiene items and children’s coloring books, crayons, etc.
On Sunday, May 29, six Boy Scouts from St. Patrick’s Troop 162 received their Eagle Scout Rank, the highest rank in scouting. To earn the Eagle Scout rank, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills.
