Today, Nov. 25, I had what was referred to as a chapel visit with about a dozen women in the Falfurrias Detention Center. This pursuit began about two months ago when I first learned about Olga, who had her baby taken from her at one-day-old and is now living with or near Olga's sister in Virginia. The first thing I did upon my arrival at the office after my visit today was to schedule a visit with the women tomorrow.
Sacred Heart in Corpus Christi held its first parish retreat at the Pax Christi Liturgical Retreat Center on Saturday, Nov. 22. The retreat included activities with the family, sharing in groups, visiting the Blessed Sacrament, a talk about the Advent season and how to live the season in the church and in families, music and worship with songs and the presentation of groups and organization in the parish.

Msgr. Morgan Rowsome, a retired priest of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, released a new book entitled "Hands are for loving, healing and helping." He previously published, "Laughing louder and living longer." Msgr. Rowsome held a book signing at People's Restaurant in Calallen on Nov. 24.

As their latest service project the Islander Catholic Student Organization at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi made sack lunches and delivered them to the residents of the Loaves and Fishes and Rustic shelters in downtown Corpus Christi. They were also able to spend some time talking with the residents and their children.

The Office of Hispanic Ministry for the Diocese of Corpus Christi will hold a prayer service for peace on behalf of the 43 teacher trainees reportedly captured by crooked cops, killed by organized crime and burned, in México. Twice a year the Office of Youth Ministry sponsors a high school teen weekend retreat where participants can come together and have an encounter with Jesus and make new friends from other parishes in the diocese. This retreat is called the TOUGH (Teens Open Up to God’s Holiness) and it is scheduled for Dec. 19-21 at the Pax Christi Liturgical Retreat Center.

The parish based retreats throughout the diocese are part of the Our Lady of Corpus Christi retreat movement.
