The Office of Youth Ministry of the Diocese of Corpus Christi is sponsoring a unique 3-on-3-basketball tournament on Saturday, June 13, at St. John Paul II High School Gym, located 3036 Saratoga Blvd. in Corpus Christi. A special half-time event will feature diocesan youth ministers challenging five Catholic priests for tournament bragging rights.
The tournament features teams of middle and high school teens from throughout the diocese who are responding to the call to serve others. Teams will represent Orange Grove, Banquete and Corpus Christi. Six local charities, the Ark Assessment Center, Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi, the Mother Teresa Shelter, the Food Bank of Corpus Christi, and Corpus Christi Hope House and Women's Shelter, will benefit from the tournament.
The free event is open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to come and support the players as they raise awareness and funds for these worthy charities. A love offering will be taken up from those attending.
Doors open at 8 a.m. with first games beginning at 9 a.m. The priests and youth ministers will play between 12-1 p.m. and the presentations of checks to the charities will be made around 1 p.m.
