The Office of Vocations and the Office of Youth Ministry is sponsoring an essay contest in celebration of the Diocese of Corpus Christi Annual Ministry Conference. The contest is open to all Catholic students in the diocese, whether they attend public or Catholic schools. The deadline for all essay entries is Dec. 19.
Questions for the essay, include "What is your understanding of the priesthood or religious life today?," "What does it take to give your whole life to Christ?" and "Which religious person (priest or sister) do you most admire and why? How has this person(s) influenced you most and how?" Participants can select one or all three questions for their essay.
There will be three age-group category winners. These categories include both public and private/parochial schools.
Category 1 is for elementary students (1st grade to 5th grade). Their essay will be up to 250 words typed and doubled space. Winner for Elementary category receives $100.
Category 2 is for middle school students (6th grade to 8th grade). Their essay must be 500 words typed and doubled space. The middle school winner receives $300.
Category 3 is for high school students (9th to 12th grade) and must be 750 words typed and doubled space. The winner for the high school category receives $500.
The winners will be announced at the Annual Ministry Conference on Jan. 10, 2015.
Essays should include the student?s complete name, address, contact phone number, email (if possible), age, grade, school attending and parish. The completed essays should be emailed to Rachel Dimas at
[email protected] by Dec. 19.
The Diocese of Corpus Christi?s Office of Vocations reserves the right to make the final decision as to which contestant(s) will receive a prize. There will only be one winner in each category. All awards will be issued in a Visa card, however the Office of Vocations also reserves the right to alter the prize at any time or to offer an alternative prize of similar value.
