ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The internationally acclaimed U.S. Naval Academy Men’s Glee Club will appear in concert in Corpus Christi Cathedral on Thursday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. The concert, “A Salute to America’s Heroes,” is the glee club’s third appearance as part of the Cathedral Concert Series.
CITGO Corpus Christi Refinery is sponsoring the event and admission is free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Information on VIP passes for all concert series events may be obtained by calling the Cathedral Music Office at (361) 888-7444.
The Men’s Glee Club is the largest and most active of the Naval Academy’s musical organizations. They regularly travel around the country representing the Naval Academy.
The glee club has received national acclaim for recent collaborations performing masterpieces of choral-orchestral literature with some of the nation’s leading symphony orchestras from Charlotte, Columbus, Phoenix, Nashville and Portland, Maine. A 10-day visit to Chile and Argentina in 2009 garnered international acclaim for the glee club from ambassadors and state department officials.
“We look forward to bringing this premier men’s choral ensemble back to perform in the Cathedral. Corpus is truly a town that appreciates the military, with significant Navy and Coast Guard presence. To be able to bring our midshipmen to perform a concert to honor those who have served and are serving means a lot to our glee club members since all of them will be serving our country as officers in the Navy and Marine Corps upon graduation and commissioning from the Naval Academy,” said Dr. Aaron Smith, the chairman of the Naval Academy’s Music Department, and the director of the Men’s Glee Club.
In addition to the concert in Corpus Christi, the Men’s Glee Club will appear in concerts in Austin on Sunday, March 11 at the First Baptist Church; Round Rock, Monday, March 12 at the First United Methodist Church; and Houston on Saturday, March 17 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.
