For the last two years the Family Outdoor Expo Road Show has been held at the Bill Witt City Park in Corpus Christi, but this free family-fun event has become so popular that the event coordinators had to find a new, bigger location. This year the Family Outdoor Expo will be held at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Since the very first Family Outdoor Expo, started in 2005 in Victoria, attendance has grown steadily to more than 9,000 at the one-day event. Organizers of the Expo say they are seeing the same response at the Corpus Christi Expo each year and hope for several thousand this year with the expanded show at the Regional Fairgrounds. The event is completely free, from parking to admission, as well as all the activities that include rock climbing, fishing, archery, pony rides, remote control cars and much more.
"Most of the kids that attend our event will get the chance to catch a fish, shoot a bow or even ride a pony for the first time", Glen A. Dry, event coordinator, said. "This event was created for families and kids to come together for one day to experience the outdoors together".
The Family Outdoor Expo Road Show is the only event of its kind in Texas and works closely with area and local youth organizations such as the Boy Scouts and 4-H clubs, as well as local churches and area non-profit organizations.
The Family Outdoor Expo Road Show is funded by private donations from individuals, families and area businesses. Event organizers are currently seeking donations from local businesses and event volunteers in the Corpus Christi area to help keep the event free.
