Starting with college year, two new seminarians were accepted and will begin their journey to the priesthood: Marshall Dragon (23) from Three Rivers and Brian Pendleton (19) from Benavides.
Marshall Dragon is finishing his degree in Industrial Distribution at Texas A&M in College Station and will join the seminary in January. Over the summer, he and Brian are spending seven weeks getting to know the diocese through a program organized by Vocations Director Bob Cummings and Fr. Charles Silva.
Marshall was raised Catholic. Around 18 months ago, he heard the priest talking at Mass about giving one’s life to God, and for the first time, it touched him. He started to discern if he was called to the priesthood. He is excited to take the next step: “I want to explore this vocation.” He enjoys hunting, fishing and mechanics. His younger brother is a senior in high school.
Brian Pendleton is the eighth of nine children. He will turn 20 in August, and the idea of a call to the priesthood has always been in his mind since he was a freshman in high school: “I didn’t pay too much attention, but it kept coming back.” He was an altar server for 13 years, and after graduating high school, he studied business while also working. Being around different priests who were his role models confirmed his vocation: One of them is his older brother, Fr. Raymond Pendleton, who was ordained to the priesthood last year.
Both are eager to learn more about the priesthood, and they will start presenting themselves at different parishes in the upcoming weeks. This Sunday, June 16, they will visit Holy Family Parish in Corpus Christi (10:30 am Mass). Sunday, June 23: St. Joseph’s in Beeville. Sunday, June 30: St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, in Calallen, Corpus Christi. Sunday, July 7: St. Joseph, Alice. Sunday, July 14: St. Anthony of Padua, Robstown (TBC). Sunday, July 21: St. John the Baptist, Corpus Christi. Sunday, July 28: St. Phillip the Apostle, Corpus Christi. Sunday, August 11: Sacred Heart, Rockport.
