“The Angels did an outstanding job in the water,” IWA Swim Coach Myra Nelson said.
Out of 30 teams who competed in the TAPPS State Swim Championships, the boys’ team tied for ninth place while the girls’ team finished in 15th place.
A total of 15 IWA High School Level swimmers competed at state and more than half placed in the top eight.
The boys’ 400 free relay team, which consists of David Villarreal, Nicholas Hein, William Yeager, and Elijah Wolfe, earned sixth place. The boys’ 200 free relay team, which consists of David, William, Elijah, and Kyle Wendel, received seventh place. The boys’ medley relay, which consists of Nicholas, Kyle, Travis Moore, and Matthew Charles, received 13th place.
In the boys’ individual results, Elijah received seventh place in the 50 free and sixth place in the 100 fly. William received eighth place in the breast and 13th place in the 50 free.
The girls’ 400 free relay, team, which consists of Grace Walsh, Carolina Munoz, Payton Vicknair, and Claire Walsh, received eighth place. The same group of girls received eighth place in the 200 free relay.
In the girls’ individual results, Elizabeth Nicholson received eighth place and Claire received ninth place in the 100 breast. Payton received 13th place in the 200 individual medley and 14th place in the 100 fly. Grace received 15th place in the 100 free.
“This young team has a lot to look forward to for the next few years,” Nelson said.
