The St. Paul School of Catechesis Summer Institute, operated by the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, is underway at various locations during the week of July 11-16. The summer institute provides ministry formation courses for Catholic schoolteachers of religion, parish catechetical leaders, parish catechists, youth ministers and others who serve in parish and school ministries.
This year enrollment has tripled, program director Therese Recinella said.
The institute has four new electives in addition to the core courses. The electives are: Evangelization and Leadership in the Church Today; Leadership in Parish Evangelization; Evangelization, Scripture: The Prophets; and Introduction to the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church.
The institute courses are offered in four locations: Corpus Christi Cathedral classrooms, Baldwin building training location, St. Gertrude in Kingsville and Our Lady of Guadalupe Sinton.
Participants pre registered for day classes offered in a two-day format: Monday/Tuesday; Wednesday/Thursday; Friday/Saturday. Evening classes are offered Monday-Friday. Recinella said walk-in registrations are accepted at the start of each class cycle. Anyone interested can register throughout the week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning for the classes on the two-day cycle, and Monday late afternoon for classes on the Monday-Friday evening format.
Course instructors are David Emerich, Benjamin Nye, Debbie Shea, Ben Nguyen, Beth Nguyen, Joe Cipriano, Sister Lou Ella Hickman, IWBS, Father Patrick Serna and Father James Stembler.
