On Thursday, Oct. 1 several St. John Paul II High School seniors attended the Annual Red Mass at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. Arriving an hour and half early they joyfully and willingly helped with whatever was asked of them. They greeted and escorted the many judges who were there to attend the Mass, assisted in the banner procession, and one student was even able to altar serve.
Once the Mass began the students fully participated in the liturgy. Afterwards, several students highlighted Bishop Michael Mulvey’s homily on the importance of mercy and hope and an address by Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman. After Mass, the students rushed to the Omni where they served as greeters for those attending a dinner and judicial panel.
The students heard four judges answer questions. Each student was impacted differently from the evening, but all of them commented on how much joy they found in service and how much they had learned. Each student was very appreciative for the opportunity and expressed a great spirit of gratitude for being able to serve at the Red Mass and the dinner. Many of them asked David Campa, the Vice Chancellor and In-House Counsel for the Diocese, if they could serve again next year.
