IWA eighth graders Andrea Hoffman and Luis Armstrong crown the statue of Mary on May 19 during a school Mass in honor of the Mother of God.
As May was the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary, students participated in the Crowning of Mary at the start of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, students have chose to bring baby items such as baby powder, bottles, wipes, and bibs to donate to the Corpus Christi Hope House, a nonprofit organization that provides shelter and assistance for mothers and their children in need.
“Mary, as our spiritual mother, watches and intercedes for us,” IWA Religious Studies Teacher Mimi Guajardo said. “We, here on earth, must be concerned for the less fortunate. Hope House is in need of these items to help out mothers-to-be who come to them for assistance.”
After Mass, students presented the baby items and diapers to Hope House Director Melissa Juarez.
