Students get crafty at IWA’s Recycled Art Camp

Incarnate Word Academy Elementary Level hosted a Recycled Art Camp on July 28-Aug. 1 at IWA’s Angel Avenue Student Center.
Students ranging in ages from 5-11 have transformed recycled material into art with the help of Susie Martin and Courtney Thorud.
Several of the art projects include junkyard dogs, painted glass bottles, homemade sidewalk chalk, word art on cabinet doors and more.
“My favorite part so far was when we made our junkyard dogs,” Cole Thomas, an IWA fourth grader, said. “We took cans and recycled stuff to make them.”
For Regan Hannigan, an IWA fifth grader, her favorite art project was creating a bubble mixture with paint.
“It was really fun to see the bubble and paint mixture explode onto paper,” Regan said. “It created this cool texture.”
Regan said she is having a lot of fun at the camp.
“I would recommend for others who didn’t participate in the camp this year to try it out next year,” Regan said. “It’s a lot of fun.”
