St. Anthony School kicked off National Catholic Schools Week with Mass
at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Jan. 26 celebrated by Bishop Michael Mulvey followed by student performances in the parish hall. Throughout the week the students participated in a variety of activities, which included an Open House, an awards presentation for Reading, Career Day, Spelling Bee, Religion Trivia, Chess Tournament and a Volleyball Game, teachers vs. eighth grade students.
K3-K5 recited the St. Anthony School statement and sang songs while using hand motions. First grade through third grade student's recited verses from the Bible, sang "The Golden Rule" and played percussion instruments, while singing "Somebody's Knockin at Your Door." Fourth through eighth grade students danced to National School Choice Week song "I'd Rather Be" by Clean Bandit. Cheerleaders performed two cheers and danced to the Christian song, "Every Move I Make."
In the Spelling Bee tournament for Kindergarteners, students Anthony Flores won 1st Place and Aiden Mayorga won 2nd Place. First graders Jenalynn Gonzalez won 1st Place, Zoe Rodriguez won 2nd Place and Ryan Gonzalez won 3rd Place. Second graders Neveah Ramirez won 1st Place, Anthony Castaneda won 2nd Place and Filomena Peralez won 3rd Place. Third graders Emanuel Villegas won 1st Place, Elleanor Honojosa won 2nd Place and Brandon Herrera won 3rd Place. Fourth graders Jaime Rodriguez won 1st Place, Sophia De Leon 2nd Place and Kaylyn Vasquez won 3rd Place. Fifth graders Jenessa Gonzalez won 1st Place, Jade Escamilla won 2nd Place and Araceli Morales won 3rd Place. Sixth graders Jesse Cisneros won 1st Place, Victoria Verdin won 2nd Place and Robert Rodriguez won 3rd Place. Seventh graders Kimberly Ramirez won 1st Place, Cassandra Escobar won 2nd Place and Mari Morales won 3rd Place. Eighth graders Carlos Rodriguez won 1st Place, Ryan Garza won 2nd Place and Noah De Los Santos won 3rd Place.
The Chess Tournament winners were Anthony Castaneda from the Elementary school and Noah De Los Santos from the Middle School.
The week concluded with a Teachers vs. Eighth Grade Students Volleyball Game, where the teachers proved victorious.
