Mass celebrating the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord was held at Our Lady of Corpus Christi Chapel. The celebrant, Bishop Michael Mulvey, read the Gospel reading from St. Luke which tells of how Mary said yes to God’s plan when the angel Gabriel told her she would conceive and bear a son. Her words, “May it be done to me according to your word,” not only expresses the beauty of Mary’s hope in God’s plan, but they resonated in a special way with everyone in attendance.
In addition to the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, this Mass also marked a very special day in the life of the Diocese of Corpus Christi. On March 25, 2010, Bishop Michael Mulvey was ordained and installed as the 8th Bishop of the Diocese of Corpus Christi. “I thank God for calling me and giving me this beautiful place in which to serve,” reflects Bishop Mulvey on the thirteenth anniversary of his Episcopal Ordination as Bishop of Corpus Christi. “It is a pleasure, a joy, and a gift to serve.”
The vocations of several others were also united in prayer at this Mass, which was part of Religious Day of Reflection for Lent organized by the Office of Consecrated Life and Vocations for Women.
“All of the sisters that attended represent all the different communities from the diocese,” said Sister Mary Claire Strasser, Director of the Office of Consecrated Life and Vocations for Women. “We are also happy to welcome Dominican Sisters and Mother Assumpta Long from Mary Mother of the Eucharist from the Diocese of Austin.”
With the day marking Bishop Michael Mulvey’s thirteenth anniversary as Bishop of the Diocese of Corpus Christi as well as the vocations of those committed to consecrated and religious life, the Solemnity of the Annunciation the Lord connected the hearts, souls, and spirits of those who have said “yes” to God’s call in a very special way.
