Mary Arnolds, a sixth grader at St. Pius X School won the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest marking the 125th anniversary of Ellis Island as an immigration station. The annual American History Contest Essay 2014-15 was "A Child's Journey Through Ellis Island." Students had to imagine passing through Ellis Island in 1892.
Mary won the essay contest at the region and state Level and was honored at the local chapter meeting in Corpus Christi and at the state chapter meeting in San Antonio. Kathi Urbis is her 6th Grade writing teacher.
