On Sept. 25, at a special noon Mass celebrated at the Newman Center located on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi campus, members of Serra International met with university students and others to celebrate the canonization of Father Junipero Serra, the Spanish Franciscan missionary who established the string of Catholic missions along the coastline of California.
Father Alex Saenz celebrated the Mass and Father Joseph Lopez, Diocesan Director of Vocations, concelebrated and preached. Following the Mass, a light lunch was served consisting of sandwiches, fruit and dessert.
Serra International is an organization that works and prays for religious vocations (priests, deacons, sisters and brothers) and supports the Diocesan Vocations Office with discernment retreats and other activities related to religious vocations. Father Lopez is the chaplain of Corpus Christi Serra Club.
