Cecilia Bauer, an altar server at Our Lady of Refuge in Refugio, has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Houston Baptist University in the fall. Bauer has played softball for 10 years and it has been her dream to play collegiate softball for a Division 1 school; Houston Baptist is a Division 1 university in the Southland Conference.
“She is an outstanding altar server for many years and so I recognize her achievements in our parish. I thank her for the total availability in all the needs of our parish and join the parish family to congratulate her. May God bless our altar server, Cecilia Bauer,” Pastor Father Philip Panackal said.
While at Refugio High School, Bauer has lettered in softball for three years and anticipates being on the varsity her senior year as well. She has been named first team All-District and Academic All-District for the last three years. At the Refugio Athletic Banquet she received the softball MVP title two years and the Bill English Fighting Heart Award for three years. Bauer has also lettered in basketball and track for all years in high school.
She will have about ninety percent of her college education paid for because of her hard work both on the field and in the classroom.
“We are all very proud of what Cecilia has accomplished and hope that she will inspire other girls to try hard and fight for their dreams,” Father Panackal said.
