Optimist Club made, donated blankets to those in need

Throughout the school year, the club created six homemade blankets to donate to the Linus Project to distribute to children of all ages who have experienced loss or a traumatic event.

Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level students from the school’s Junior Optimist Club created six homemade blankets this school year to donate to those in need.
 
The students presented the blankets to Dee Labay from the Project Linus on May 5. Project Linus, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”
 
The Linus Project is a nonprofit organization that provides blankets to children of all ages who have experienced loss or a traumatic event. The organization’s distribution sites include: American Red Cross, CASA, Coastal Bend Aids Foundation, Communities in Schools, Corpus Christi I.S.D., Corpus Christi Police Department and Driscoll Children’s Hospital.
 
IWA Teacher Janice Johnson, the school’s Junior Optimist Club sponsor, said the students worked hard on making the blankets for the Project Linus to distribute.
 
“The students are dedicated to serving others,” Johnson said. “They were blessed to participate in this project.”
