“A Catholic education is something that every child deserves, and that is what our upcoming Casino Night is all about,” says Father Frank Martinez, pastor at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Corpus Christi. To achieve that important goal of creating opportunities for more children to receive a Catholic education, the parish is preparing for its annual Casino Night fundraiser that will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 6 p.m. to midnight under the OLPH Pavilion on the church grounds at 5830 Williams Drive. The money raised will benefit the parish’s Fill Every Desk campaign.
This is the third year that Our Lady of Perpetual Help stages its Casino Night fundraiser, and everyone in the parish is understandably excited. On the evening of the event, the school’s pavilion will be transformed into a Las Vegas-style gaming room where guests can play blackjack, Texas Hold’em, Let It Ride and roulette. There will also be dinner served from 6-8 p.m., a silent and live auction, snacks, and music, as well as an excellent opportunity for fellowship. But however entertaining Casino Night may be, its mission is indeed a very serious one.
“The Fill Every Desk campaign is a way of making a Catholic education accessible to families who otherwise would not be able to afford it,” says Raul Ramon, principal of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Academy. “Our school takes its spiritual and academic responsibilities very seriously, because we hope to guide our students to become God’s instruments.”
When asked about the long-term benefits of the Fill Every Desk campaign, Mr. Ramon smiles and says, “The ability to have a Catholic education makes options limitless for all of our students.”
Tickets for the very special Las Vegas-style event are available by calling the Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish office at (361) 991-7891. They can also be purchased at the door the night of the event. Additionally, sponsorship opportunities and donations of silent auction items are still being accepted.
