“We must embrace our differences with one another,” said Bishop Michael Mulvey in his homily at the Multicultural Mass held Friday, Sept. 23 at Corpus Christi Cathedral. “It is when we embrace these differences that we become more united.”
That spirit of cultural togetherness was evident as many gathered for the Multicultural Mass to celebrate Pope Francis’ declaration of World Day of Migrants and Refugees. A multilingual rosary and dazzling procession of flags preceded the Mass, which was followed by a reception in St. Joseph Hall that featured a wide array of ethnic foods.
There were also several gifted performers on hand who took to the stage to celebrate their culture with some captivating and highly rhythmic presentations. These included a female mariachi vocalist, a group of Irish dancers, and a quartet of singing nuns strumming acoustic guitars. The grand finale featured Matachines dancing in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The rhythms, melodies, and flavors united everyone in a memorable cultural celebration of heritage, strength, and diversity.
