Eight Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level students will advance to compete in the State Private Schools Interscholastic Association (PSIA) Academic Meet on April 25. The State PSIA Academic Meet will be held at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
Alison Duncan, Gabriel Rauen, Madeline Villa, Drake Leeson, Mia Moore, Andrea Reyes, Sarah Grace O’Donnell and Frances Lee advanced to compete at state after earning first and second place in multiple categories at the District PSIA Meet on Feb. 14. Luis Armstrong, Sarita Pettus and Anthony Matl received third place in multiple categories and will travel with the middle level academic team as state alternates.
First place winners at the district meet were Madeline Villa, Calculator; Gabriel Rauen, Maps, Graphs & Charts 8th grade; Gabriel Rauen, Modern Oratory; Alison Duncan, Mathematics 7th grade; Andrea Reyes, Ready Writing 6th grade; Sarah Grace O’Donnell, Ready Writing 7th grade; Mia Moore, Science 8th grade; and Andrea Reyes, Vocabulary 6th grade.
Earning second place honors were Drake Leeson, 7th grade Listening Skills and Science; Alison Duncan, Number Sense 7th grade; Frances Lee, On-Site Drawing 6th; Mia Moore, On-Site Drawing 8th grade.
Third place winners included Anthony Matl, Mathematics 7th grade; Sarita Pettus, Vocabulary 6th grade; Luis Armstrong, On-Site Drawing 7th grade; and Gabriel Rauen, Number Sense 8th grade.
The state qualifiers will compete in several categories including: calculator application; listening skills; maps, graphs, and charts; mathematics; modern oratory; number sense; on-site drawing; ready writing; science; and vocabulary.
