Catholic Charities is partnering with the YMCA on a new program called MEND, Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it. The program is an evidenced based and sustainable solution to the child obesity crisis, Shannette Hoelscher with Catholic Charities said.
MEND is a free 10-week, after-school weight management course where overweight and obese children between seven and 13 years old and their families learn to develop behaviors that support sustainable and healthy lifestyles.
Catholic Charities will kick off a pilot program at the YMCA of the Coastal Bend July 27. The program will host 15-18 families at bi-weekly meetings held at the YMCA.
Anyone interested in registering for MEND should call Marisa Ramon at the YMCA or contact Sarah Smith, with Catholic Charities’ Healthy Living & Advocacy Center, at (361) 442-2224, ext. 21.
