After a full week with an acoustic concert at St. Pius X Youth Center, a five-day Youth Performing Arts camp, and a concert at Mary Carroll High School for 600 people, Gen Verde ended their stay in Corpus Christi with a Mass at Corpus Christi Cathedral. Together with the Pontifical Chorale, they sang several of their liturgical songs and parts of the Mass, ending with a powerful Magnificat in Spanish.
Bishop Michael Mulvey thanked the group for coming to the diocese and witnessing what it means to live the Gospel seriously. Referring to the readings of the day, he remarked that “often we are so busy that we forget the goal: ‘to live in the presence of God all the days of our life.’” Referring to a writer who stated, “Your God is too little,” he wondered if we create a God that we can deal with, who sends no difficulties and doesn’t ask too much: “Is our God too small?”
In Sunday’s Gospel, the King invites guests to his son’s wedding, and no one shows up (see Mt 22:1-14). Indeed, “God invites; all of us are invited to have an encounter with God.” Each one of us is a person loved by God and invited to have an encounter with Him.
In that way, the faithful should ask themselves, “Have I been a person this week who promoted peace? Have I shown mercy? Have I loved my neighbor?” These, so Bishop Mulvey, are moments where each can respond “yes” to God’s invitation, letting God become a part of our life.
