Love Kitchen serves the homeless at Mother Teresa Shelter

Bundled for warmth, more than 250 of Corpus Christi’s area homeless were treated to hot slices of mouth-watering pizza from Little Caesars Love Kitchen at the Mother Teresa Shelter on Feb. 11.

Little Caesars Love Kitchen travels across the United States and Canada to feed the homeless and disaster survivors.

While staff from Catholic Charities helped serve slices, Love Kitchen Driver, Rick Moreno brought out boxes of pizza from inside a big rig truck. The pizzas had been freshly-made by two people inside the “kitchen on wheels.” The cooks and the food were provided by a local franchise.

In spite of the cold, wet weather Stephanie Potts and Michael Elliot, who are currently staying at the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission had been waiting since early in the morning for the promise of a special hot meal. “This is great, the food we usually eat is bland and boring,” Potts said. Elliot said that he had just moved to Corpus Christi from Ohio to get away from the bitter cold and be closer to his sister, Stephanie.

Betty Berry, acting supervisor, said that it was the first time the Love Kitchen has come to the shelter, “They’ve been to the Salvation Army, but not here, so we are thrilled.”

“I love what the business community represented by Little Caesars has done for our homeless brothers and sisters,” Executive Director of Catholic Charities Linda McKamie, said.
