Knights of Columbus from across the state gathered at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi on April 26-28 for their 109th Annual State Convention. Corpus Christi Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey celebrated the opening Mass on Friday, April 26.
Joining Bishop Mulvey on the altar erected at the Henry Garrett Ballroom were Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller and several other bishops from dioceses in Texas. On Saturday, April 27, Archbishop Garcia-Siller presided at the Memorial Mass for Knights that passed away since the last convention.
Archbishop Garcia-Siller focused his homily on the Gospel reading for the Fifth Sunday of Easter in which Jesus gave His disciples the commandment to love one another as He had loved them. “The Lord calls each one of us to carry our cross,” Archbishop Garcia-Siller said.
The Corpus Christi Area Knights of Columbus Chapter served as the host committee with Ron Alonso and John Maher as co-chairmen. In addition to the Liturgies celebrated on Friday and Saturday, the convention held a business meeting and enjoyed the city’s hospitality with a golf tournament and a beach party.
