Local non-commercial radio station KLUX 89.5HD will hold a two-day, on-the-air fundraiser on Sept. 14-15. Titled "PledgeFest", the two-day event will feature KLUX air personalities and guests making on-air appeals for support and taking phone pledges. The goal of the two-day event is $16,000.
Aside from raising operating funds, station officials are hoping to obtain additional donations to assist in funding an increase in the station's digital HD power, in order to extend its digital coverage. With a legacy analog signal covering the bulk of South Texas, KLUX was the first local station to broadcast in Digital HD.
The station also has a strong commitment to local Emergency Management and the Local Emergency Planning Committee having been singled out in past years by state and local emergency management offices and organizations for its special contributions during civil emergencies.
The station broadcasts a format of "Easy Listening Music" with inspirational and educational messages and is well known for making free air time available for local civic and religious not-for-profit organizations to promote their projects and events.
