In keeping with the spirit of community stewardship KLUX 89.5 HD radio connected a new emergency generator plant that will power the station and enable them to broadcast in case of severe weather, chemical or other civil emergencies.
On Aug. 20 KLUX held a celebration and blessing at the radio station. Several supporters and benefactors of the radio station were in attendance including Msgr. Michael Howell, Pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and Board President of Diocesan Telecommunications Corporation, Licensee of KLUX, who blessed the generator.
The generator set and new Automatic transfer switches were purchased with funds raised from the on-air “Powerthon” held by the station last fall, in addition to a $10,000 grant from the Dr. & Mrs. Hugh Kennedy Foundation of Corpus Christi.
According to Marty Wind, General Manager of KLUX, the system is totally automatic and runs all cooling systems. “We have full redundant emergency power,” said Wind.
