Incarnate Word Academy held their annual Montessori Family Night on Feb. 19 for families currently enrolled in the elementary level’s Montessori program.
To support the IWA perspective for teaching the whole child, IWA strives to partner closely with parents in the education process. Events such as the Montessori Family Night help strengthen the student-parent-educator relationship by providing parents hands-on knowledge of their child’s school day.
“Our Montessori Family Night is an opportunity to come together to learn about the Montessori philosophy of education,” IWA Elementary Level-Montessori Director Blanca Cummins said. “The more that we as parents know and understand what Montessori is, the more we come to appreciate it and support it at home.”
The school’s Montessori Family Night began with a potluck dinner. After dinner, while the children played, parents listened to a presentation by IWA Elementary Level-Montessori teacher Mrs. Mary Galvan, entitled, “Grace and Courtesy across the Planes of Development.”
After the presentation, parents participated in breakout sessions.
