IWA students to learn about digital citizenship, online bullying

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – In observance of National Bullying Prevention Month Incarnate Word Academy will host an event to help students understand the different forms of bullying and how to prevent it.

Richard Guerry, executive director of the award-winning Institute for Responsible Online and Cell-Phone Communication will talk with students about appropriate digital behavior and how to develop safe and responsible habits when online and using cell phones.

The presentation aims to educate students about the different forms of cyber bullying and provide them with actionable steps to stop the bullying as well as prevent it. In addition, students will be given anti-bullying wristbands to show support for National Bullying Prevention Month. The wristbands read ?Bullying Ends With Me.

Imbergamo said. “Our goal is to help foster good digital citizenship in our students—young people who know how to maximize the benefits that technology has to offer, but who are also aware that online behavior can have real-world consequences if not utilized safely and responsibly.”

Guerry is the author of "Public and Permanent: The Golden Rule of the 21st Century." He has been a featured speaker at many national conferences and conventions, including the National Conference on Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention, the International Bullying Prevention Association and the National Symposium on Child Abuse. Guerry will make two presentations at the high school’s Gunning Gymnasium on Monday, Oct. 15; he wills speak to middle school students at 12:20 p.m. and high school students at 1:50 p.m.
