CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Incarnate Word Academy High School Level’s Mission Team returned to Corpus Christi on Sunday, March 31, after being away from home to serve others throughout Holy Week.
Eighty-six students from the Mission Team traveled to Big Wells and Asherton, Texas on March 24 to spread God’s words by serving others. Students repaired trim for a CCD center in the area, painted homes, created stairs to a family’s front door, and much more.
Throughout the school year, the IWA Mission Team commits their time and effort to serving others. Students work and worship together with the people in the parishes and communities in which they serve. They participate in “visiteo” which includes visiting house to house and inviting residents to attend prayer services.
Part of their experience is to immerse themselves into the lives of the people in the towns they visited.
“We want to give our young people the gift of seeing life through the eyes of others,” Sister Rosa Ortiz, IWA Director of Campus Ministries, said. “So in addition to the manual labor that our students put forth to help revitalize communities, they also have the opportunity to have a deeper understanding of lifestyles that are very different from their own life experience.”
