While many students in the Coastal Bend are still on their summer vacation, students at Incarnate Word Academy (IWA) began the school year with a healthy start.
This healthy start took place at IWA’s 7th Annual Angel Mile Run on Aug. 17 at the school’s Austin Street Athletic Complex beginning at 6:15 a.m.
“I believe students should start off the year healthy,” IWA Coach Donald Patterson said. “Not only are these students starting off their education, but they are starting off their year right with their health.”
Students from IWA’s elementary, middle, and high school levels participated in this one-mile challenge along with parents, faculty, and staff.
“As a new member on staff, I think that it’s great that students, parents, and faculty are beginning the new school year by fulfilling the school’s quest for a healthy lifestyle,” Augie Garcia, IWA’s Multimedia Design Specialist, said. “Running this Angel Mile Run isn’t just good for the body, but it’s good for the soul.”
Eighth grader Kenneth Carel couldn’t agree more. He said that it’s important to both exercise and eat healthy.
“It’s important to eat right because it will help you pick up your pace, and so you don’t become sluggish,” Kenneth said.
Some students, who didn’t participate in the Angel Mile Run last year, said that they were looking forward to participating in the Angel Mile Run.
Before the event kicked off sixth grader Sofia Alexander said, “It will be fun, I love running.”
