Incarnate Word Academy fifth graders got an opportunity to experience leadership at the elementary level's first ever Angel Leadership Workshop on Tuesday, July 30.
"This is an opportunity for fifth grade students to enhance their leadership skills as the senior class of the elementary level," Rosario Davila, IWA elementary level principal, said.
The Angel Leadership Workshop, is free to all incoming IWA fifth graders.
Ashley Pettus, IWA high school level athletic coordinator, assisted with the workshop and said the purpose of the event is to help students see each other as equals.
“It’s all about building relationships,” Pettus said.
Students brought one item of sentimental value to the Angel Leadership Workshop. If the item is fragile or breakable, students brought a photograph of the item to the workshop.
“A single item might not mean anything to one student, but to another it might mean the world,” Pettus said. “This activity will open up a door for the students to get to know more about each other.”
The Angel Leadership Workshop is an example of how IWA forms its students “in a loving and challenging environment where the individual gifts of every student are recognized, celebrated, and developed as a reflection of Christ,” an IWA news release said.
