The Angel Cheerleaders recognized the high school level’s cross country and volleyball teams at
Incarnate Word Academy's first pep rally on Aug. 14.
There was a dance contest between faculty and students, a tug of war contest and who rocks the house spirit contest between freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior classes.
The girls’ varsity volleyball team will head to Kingsville on Aug. 21 to face the Santa Gertrudis Academy High School Lions at 5 p.m. The varsity girls’ team will also head to Orange Grove on Aug. 22 to face the Bulldogs at 11:30 a.m.
Last season, Haven Cruz and Kate Pekar were named to the TAPPS All-District Second Team and Leslie Fagan and Catherine Schultz were named TAPPS All-District Honorable Mention Team. In addition, Kate Pekar was named to the TAPPS All-State Academic Team.
The IWA cross country teams will head to The Woodlands on Aug. 28 to compete in the Friday Night Lights Cross Country Invitational, which will be their first meet of the season.
Last season, the IWA girls’ cross country team earned the TAPPS 4A State Cross Country Championship Titles on Oct. 25, while the IWA boys’ cross country team received second place overall. Also at state, recent graduate Jared Coco was named a TAPPS State Cross Country Champion after he placed first in the boys’ 4A division. In addition, all four of the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams placed first at the TAPPS 4A District Meet on October 18, 2014.
