CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Incarnate Word Academy High School academic team placed first at the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Academic District Competition this weekend at Hyde Park Baptist High School in Austin.
The IWA High School academic team, which consists of 35 students, came home with a sweeping victory earning themselves 218 points in the district competition. This by far exceeded the second place team, who received 65 points.
Last school year, the IWA Academic Team held on to their TAPPS state championship title for the fifth time in six years. This year, the Angels hope to make it their sixth first place win in seven years.
Students competed in ready writing, science, spelling, current events, number sense, calculator applications, advanced math, literary criticism, social studies, Spanish, and math. They also competed in prose, persuasive speaking, solo acting, poetry interpretation, poetry, solo, and duet acting.
