IWA celebrates the life 

of Dr. Hector P. Garcia

Incarnate Word Academy held a memorial Mass in honor of Dr. Hector P. Garcia and in celebration of his life, on Sept. 21 in the school's Chapel.

IWA has a close relationship with the family of Dr. Hector P. Garcia. All of Dr. Garcia’s daughters are graduates of IWA, and Dr. Garcia was the personal physician of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament for many years.

Dr. Garcia’s daughter Cecilia Garcia-Akers, president of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation, presented IWA with a check of $5,000 to be used as tuition assistance for students to attend the Angel campus.

Dr. Hector P. Garcia Day is a Texas state recognition day set forth by the Texas legislature.
