Incarnate Word Academy celebrated National Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 25-29, one week earlier than the National celebration of Jan. 31-Feb. 6. IWA held several events to celebrate the week. They included a campus-wide Mass, parent lunches with students, guest speakers, and class projects.
During National Catholic Schools Week, IWA focused on the value Catholic education provides to youth and its contributions to our church, communities, and nation.
The week kicked off with the IWA Middle Level’s prayer service on Monday, Jan. 25 in the school’s James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center. After the prayer service, the middle level presented a donation of $825 to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. The students collected the donation on their own during the Advent season.
In addition, students, faculty, and staff celebrated National Catholic Schools Week with a campus-wide Mass on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 10-11 a.m. in the school’s Mother Patricia Gunning Gymnasium.
At IWA Elementary Level, students celebrated 100 days of school on Thursday and enjoyed Career Day on Friday.
Also on Thursday, the senior class will participate in a field trip at 11:15 a.m. to visit the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament and their new motherhouse.
In addition to these events, there will be several individual classroom activities ranging from the creation of artwork with Catholic themes, utilization of multimedia in the classroom on Christianity and Catholicism, pep rally and more.
