Ten Islander Catholics joined Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi students for the BIG Event on March 28. They had the opportunity to provide a much needed facelift to the Lindale Recreational Center where they scraped and painted the outside of the main building.
"It truly was a great feeling being able to give back to the community with a great group of volunteers who show interest in serving not only God, but the community that they live in. Giving back, providing a service to a place where they focus on youth, made the event far more special," said sophmore Nicholas Medina, Vice President of Islander Catholic and head of the service committee.
The BIG Event is a community service project hosted by Student Volunteer Connection at TAMUCC to help Corpus Christi residents with every day projects around the home and garden. Through service-oriented activities, The BIG Event promotes campus and community unity as the campus comes together for one day to express their gratitude for the support of the surrounding community.
"Islander Catholic definitely looks forward to many more years of participating in The BIG Event," Medina said.
