Incarnate Word high school level students learn about college application process at workshops

Incarnate Word Academy invited its high school level students, along with their parents, to attend several of college application workshops on Aug. 26, Sept. 2, 16, and 30.

“Students will receive application assistance for any college or university of their choice,” IWA Academic and Guidance Counselor Sherilyn Calhoun said.

In addition, students will get help with college essays, scholarship searches and more. As the process of applying to and selecting a college becomes more and more competitive and complex, IWA is committed to providing students and families with college-planning resources.

One of the many ways IWA prepares its students for college is through several of its college visits, which are scheduled throughout the school year. At each visit, students can meet one-on-one during school hours with college representatives to learn about admission requirements, course offerings, campus environment, as well as other information pertinent to the college-selection process.

“College representatives are going to provide unique insight into what it takes to be a competitive applicant,” Calhoun said. “They are also going to discuss topics such as scholarships, majors, and the importance of applying early.”

Last year, 100 percent of IWA’s senior class was accepted to a college or university – 98 percent of those students were accepted to four year major universities. The class, with 93 seniors, received a total of $7.4 million in scholarship offers.
