CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – There will be no sleeping-in this weekend for some students at Incarnate Word Academy High School.
About 35 students will be painting fences and tending to the landscape at Central Catholic Elementary School on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. In addition to Saturday’s volunteer efforts, about 15 students will be serving food to the homeless at the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker House on Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
“It’s important to volunteer and make a difference,” Gabriella Trejo, a junior at IWA High School, said.
By volunteering, Incarnate Word Academy and its students are striving to become an image of Christ within the community.
“This is a great example of how students recognize themselves as contributing citizens of the community and are committed to improving the quality of life for all, particularly the poor, marginalized and oppressed,” Dominique Damian, IWA Media Relations Specialist said.
