Pax Christi Sister Consuelo Flores Zamora, 88, died on Wednesday, Oct. 19, in Corpus Christi. Sister Consuelo, during her 70 years in religious life, served in orphanages in México, Laredo and the Residence for Girls in Corpus Christi. She was also a mistress of novices and postulants as well as evangelization ministry and pastoral work in Querétaro, México.
Sister Consuelo was baptized Hermelinda and was born April 29, 1928, in Parras, Coahuila, México. She felt a strong desire to serve God and at the age of 15 she joined the Sisters, Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and of the Poor in Mexico.
On Nov. 3, 1968, Sister Consuelo received a second call from God, to collaborate with Mother Teresa Santoyo to begin the new religious community of the Pax Christi Sisters in Corpus Christi.
The celebration of the Holy Eucharist and the long hours she spent in adoration before the tabernacle were the heart of Sister Consuelo's prayer life and contemplation. She exhibited a tender love for the Lord and the Blessed Mother Mary and lived solely for the service of God's Kingdom.
Sister Consuelo is preceded in death by her mother and father, Jesús Flores and Gregoria Zamora, and her brothers and sister Margarita, Ignacio and Francisco Flores Zamora.
She is survived by her siblings María Antonia, María Ignacia, and Jesús Flores Zamora and her niece María Concepción Fuántos, M.D. and many other nieces and nephews in México.
Visitation and rosary were held on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at the Pax Christi Sisters Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Monday, Oct. 24, at Pax Christi Sisters Chapel. Interment will follow at Seaside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pax Christi Chapel.
