JP II High school graduates from left, Natalie Trevino, Monzy Fradera, Theresia Hendricks, Katherine Garcia and Nick Alaniz presented their high school research papers to distinguished guests on May 10. Among the guests present were Bishop Emeritus Edmond Carmody (left) and Bishop Michael Mulvey (right).
Five research papers on moral topics were chosen to present to Bishop Michael Mulvey, superintendent Rosemary Henry and many other distinguished guests at St. John Paul II High School on May 10.
Several weeks ago all of the senior students at St. John Paul II High School turned in research papers and presented moral topics that included "Pre-marital Sex," "Sexualization in the Media," "Physician Assisted Suicide," "Ethics in Journalism," "Stem-cell Research," "Homosexual Unions," "Contraception" and other topics.
The students researched the topics from both faith and reason (fides et ratio) and then were asked to reflect on their topics in hopes that it would enhance their worldview and way of life (virtus). The students, although nervous, were able to be powerful witnesses of Jesus Christ and the life and mission of St. John Paul II High School, where he is truly present.
The presentation was an opportunity for students to communicate their research findings and its relevance in their lives. It was also an opportunity to dialogue with their guests.
One of the guests who was able to attend the presentations described this part of their day as “profound and “beautiful,” and all of those in attendance had faces full of joy and hope as they all shared a meal afterwards, school development director Laura Okoniewski said.
