Almsgiving. Almsgiving is to love one another. To give ourselves to another. To give of ourselves. It basically means “to love.” To love another. The greatest almsgiving was when Jesus gave himself to us on the cross. Before that, God gave Jesus to us. He gave of himself to us. So, almsgiving, really means to give of ourselves.
The problem we often face is that we tend to put up barriers. We put up limitations. We have a certain mindset. In the third video of his Lenten video retreat titled ‘Growing in Grace: Lenten Reflections With Bishop Mulvey’, Bishop Mulvey asks us to step beyond ourselves, which is a real process, but one that leads to real almsgiving.
