Family-friendly hotel Moody Gardens on Galveston Island was the site of The Catholic Blueprint, a conference on the family put together by the Fullness of Truth, an organization dedicated to evangelization by revealing the beauty of the Catholic faith. Through the support of Siobhan O’Connor, Diocesan Director of Young Adult Ministry, thirteen members of Corpus Christi’s Young Catholic Adults made the 8-hour round trip to attend the conference, which featured an incredible speaker lineup: Fr. David Michael Moses, Fr. David Hust, Paul J. Kim, Gabriel Castillo, Steve Ray, and Abby Johnson.
As the attendees were drawn deeper into the mystery of the “blueprint” of the Holy Family through the various talks, they were also invited to immerse themselves in a sacramental and liturgical atmosphere, attending the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and Mass. Adoration and confession were available throughout the three-day event.
For some YCA members, this was their first experience of such a conference, while some, like Liana Badillo, wondered if the conference would be like others she’d experienced. Once she discerned that she should attend, she felt called to go and “See others with the eyes of God and not hold back my love for God.” Badillo was amazed by how God used the speakers’ words to penetrate her heart, revealing how we all may fall short within our blood family or spiritual family and providing practical solutions centered in Christ. “Being able to do all of this with our YCA community was truly an igniting gift,” Badillo shared, “journeying, encouraging, and praying with one another through virtuous friendships.”
There was a feeling of connection, reverence, and excitement in the air. The speakers were readily available to the attendees throughout the weekend, engaging in conversation and participating in group photos. A particularly memorable moment was when Fr. David Hust solemnly processed the Eucharist down each aisle in the conference room, shining the light of Christ in the monstrance on each person as he passed, with gorgeous sacred music and incense filling the air.
The love and peace the YCA members felt was unmistakable. One member, Lisa Olmos, reflected afterward: “Fullness of Truth was a blessing. It reignited the fire in my soul and challenged me in ways that I needed to grow deeper in my prayer life. My heart grew even more in love with my faith.”
