On Saturday, April 25, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook Kathmandu, Nepal, and surrounding areas. Relief efforts continue as the official death toll surpasses 5,000. Thousands of people lack adequate shelter, access to clean water and essential living supplies.
The Diocese of Corpus Christi will hold a special collection for victims of the earthquake on Sunday, May 10.
"Our Church mourns the terrible suffering of our brothers and sisters affected by this powerful earthquake," Bishop Michael Mulvey said. He called on the faithful in the Diocese of Corpus Christi to join with the Catholic community across the United States in responding to "our suffering brothers and sisters" through a special collection for the work of Catholic Relief Services in Nepal.

As outlying villages are reached, the number in need could rise into the millions. The people of Nepal desperately need prayers and support. Catholic Relief Services and its partner Caritas Nepal are supporting 15,000 families with emergency shelter, blankets, and water treatment and hygiene kits.
"You too can provide real help today. Thank you for your prayers and generosity," Dr. Carolyn Y. Woo, President & CEO of Catholic Relief Services said. "Thanks to the generosity of people like you, we have enacted a swift response."
