The faithful in the Diocese of Corpus Christi raised $110,031.37 to aid in the efforts of disaster relief resulting from the torrential rains and flooding in the Texas Hill Country community of Wimberley in the Diocese of Austin.
Bishop Michael Mulvey asked that a special collection be taken at all Masses in the diocese the weekend of May 30-31. “The people of the Diocese of Corpus Christi have responded generously to the terrible tragedy of the floods and loss of lives, some of whom were from Corpus Christi,” Bishop Mulvey said.
The collection has been sent to the Diocese of Austin. Bishop Mulvey wrote to Bishop Joe Vasquez that he hoped “this charitable contribution will assist some of the needs of those who lost so much.”
