Bishop Michael Mulvey, Dr. Beatriz Espinoza, President of Coastal Bend College and General Marc Cisneros, CEO of the John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation, broke ground for a new Catholic Campus ministry building in Beeville on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The ceremony took place on the site of the new building across the street from Coastal Bend College at the intersection of Charco Road and Louise Drive.
The new 4,000-sq-ft Newman Catholic Center will be able to accommodate 180 people with a large community room, Chapel, two meeting rooms and a kitchen.
The project is being made possible through the Legacy of Faith - Future of Hope capital and endowment campaign of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, which raised $500,000 from local Catholics for the project. This, together with a $250,000 grant from the John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation, will fund the new construction.
Coastal Bend College in Beeville, serves more than 1,000 students, who can benefit from the new center by bringing attention to their spiritual needs.
Construction is expected to begin immediately with completion expected in the fall of 2016.
