The Incarnate Word Academy boys’ and girls’ cross country teams literally hit the ground running at the TAPPS 6-5A District Meet on Oct. 15 as they earned first place to advance to state.
The IWA boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will compete at the TAPPS 6-5A State Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Paul Tyson Field in Waco. The girls’ race will begin at 1 p.m. and the boys’ race will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Before the Angels and Lady Angels hit the road on Friday, Oct. 28 they will celebrate Mass at 7:20 a.m. in the IWA Chapel. The teams will be seen off by families, friends, and the school’s cheerleading team before they depart at 8:45 a.m.
The IWA cross country teams hope to take back their TAPPS State Championship titles.
“The girls won state in 2014 and last year, in 2015, they missed the state championship title by one point,” Head Coach Donald Patterson said. “The boys won state in 2012 and 2013 and second place in 2014. This year, they are ready to finish on top.”
