Incarnate Word Academy is wasting no time preparing this year’s high school students for their college careers. One of the many ways is by holding a college fair, on Sunday, Sept. 8 in the school’s Mother M. Patricia Gunning Gymnasium.
The fair hosted 21 universities, including Baylor, Duke, Texas A&M, Texas Christian University, University of Texas, Yale, University of the Incarnate Word and others.
Students and parents met one-on-one with representatives to learn about admission requirements, course offerings, campus environment, as well as other information pertinent to the college-selection process.
“College representatives…provide that insight of what it takes to be a competitive applicant,” Academic and Guidance Counselor Sherilyn Calhoun said.
As the process of applying to and selecting a college becomes more and more competitive and complex, IWA is committed to providing students and families with college-planning resources, Calhoun said.
In the coming school year, Incarnate Word Academy will be hosting several college visits for students during school hours along with a senior workshop—complete with assistance on college applications, resumes and essays.
“We have several events planned for not only our seniors, but our underclassmen as well,” Calhoun said. “It’s going to be an exciting school year at IWA.”
